Five checkout mistakes that quietly cost you sales

People who reach your checkout want to buy. These five things make them change their mind.

Someone who reaches your checkout has already decided they want the product. Losing them there hurts the most, and it's usually caused by one of these.

1. Surprise costs

Shipping or fees that appear at the last step are the most common reason people leave. Show them early, or include them in the price.

2. Too many fields

Every field is a small reason to stop. Ask only what you need to ship the order.

3. Missing payment methods

Shoppers expect the methods they use every day: cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and local ones like iDEAL or Bancontact. With Stripe you switch them on once, and they appear in the checkout automatically.

4. No reassurance

A short line near the button helps: secure payment, a money-back guarantee, how fast it ships. Keep it short and true.

5. Distractions

Links to other pages, big menus, or a pop-up in the checkout all pull attention away from paying. A funnel checkout has none of them.

Look at the drop-off on your funnel page: if many visitors reach the checkout but few pay, start with this list.
